The Sile and its park
The River Sile is Europe’s longest resurgence river, or river that has its source in a spring, and flows through the regional park. The river begins just north of Treviso and meanders for almost a 100 km through the Trevisan and Venetian countryside before flowing into the Venetian lagoon and then into the Adriatic sea. Its source is in the Casa Corba area in the Comune of Vedelago, where the water bubbles up continuously from springs known as fontanassi. From the Relais Ca’ Maffio you can travel up the Sile in both directions, south towards the Venetian lagoon as far as the islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello, or north as far as Casale sul Sile and the historic centre of Treviso.
Cruising along the sinuous course of the Sile on board a boat is the best way of seeing the charming countryside bounding the river, discovering inlets, little lakes, grassy banks, dense poplar groves and fields forming a stunning natural setting studded by old mills, little hamlets and aristocratic villas.
A ramble or bike ride along the banks of the River Sile offers you the chance to enjoy a unique experience immersed in the smells, sounds and colours of the plant life growing along its banks or observing the many species of animals and birds living undisturbed in its waters. The Sile nature reserve is the perfect place for fans of birdwatching. Walking along the park paths you can spot numerous species of bird nesting or passing through the reserve.
